In the midst of the New York hustle, I found myself feeling sluggish throughout the day, even after 7 to 9 hours of sleep. With my busy schedule and the stress that came with it, I often ate fast food and frequently indulged in sweets, dairy, and processed foods. When I moved to Washington years ago, I expected my energy levels to increase given the difference in pace yet, I felt drained.
So I quit eating meat cold turkey and sustained a vegan diet for about a year. My skin cleared up, I lost weight, and I’d wake up like a toddler full of energy. However, sticking to a vegan diet was difficult as I struggled with variety and craved dairy. So I began to follow a vegetarian diet. Yet that was also short-lived as I went back to eating meat. Although this time around, I freed myself of the dietary restrictions and self imposed food deprivation and committed to the 80/20 rule for eating:
80% Nutrient-dense Whole Foods + 20% Whatever I Want!
With the change in my eating habits, I committed to routine fasting, yoga, strength training and more. I learned that I can maintain my energy levels with clean and intuitive eating, and habits grounded in Wellness.
I completed my coach training with an ICF approved Masters program, the Maryland University of Integrative Health, with a concentration in Nutrition. I am also the CEO of a natural hair and skincare business called Nelia’s Naturals.
